AG CRANES sponsors big Boxing fight night in Redditch.

Redditch boxing fans had a treat on Saturday the 28th of July 2012 at the AG Cranes sponsored event. In town was the twice former World Heavyweight Boxing champion of the World Tim Witherspoon who fought local hero Jimmy Moran over 4 rounds in the open air, in beautiful sunshine.

In the main fight of the day Jimmy Moran took on American Tim Witherspoon in full 4 rounds with both boxers giving as good as they got. The first round was fairly even as both boxers tested each other out.

The second round saw Witherspoon land some mighty blows on Moran's jaw but he took them and carried on coming forward. The third round was Moran's best and for a a period of time he appeared to have Witherspoon rocking back on his heels against the ropes. As the crowd jumped to its feet the bell went just as the 2000 plus Redditch boxing fans thought a knockout may be on the cards.

As the fourth round ended former World Champion Witherspoon won the bout on a points decision. Rematch anyone!!! Yes please.

The action was staged at Redditch United’s Valley Stadium, with a fun fair, food and three bars to help quench the crowds thirst on such a hot day.

“There are 12 fights in all with the big one being local hero Jimmy Moran and former World Champ Tim Witherspoon, this is a fight everybody locally really wants to see "commented Laurence O’Connor manager of Viking Boxing Club. He went on to say “Thanks to AG Cranes for sponsoring the event and providing the vests for the boxers and ring girls to wear."

Jimmy Moran won a Commonwealth Gold medal in 1986 in Edinburgh while Witherspoon knocked out Frank Bruno in the same year.
